Ashley Steere
Biography
Ashley Steere received her Associate Degree in Nursing in 2011 from Ventura College. She had a previous bachelor of science degree from California Lutheran University in environmental science. Ashley received her bachelor of science in nursing and master of science in nursing education through Western Governors University’s online program. She completed her doctorate of nursing practice at the University of Missouri, Columbia, and is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC). She has extensive experience in emergency nursing, pediatric critical care, and psychiatric nursing. She has also worked in adult intensive care and neonatal intensive care units. Ashley has approximately 8 years of in-hospital educator and teaching experience at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and Los Robles Medical Center. She taught at CSU Channel Islands from 2021-2022, before beginning her doctoral degree.
Ashley would describe her teaching style as enthusiastic. She has a love for nursing that translates to her students in fun and creative ways. “I love to see that ‘ah-ha’ moment happen when my students grasp a difficult concept." Ashley uses illustrations, games, escape rooms, and simulations to aid in that endeavor. " One of the hospital departments I oversaw education for was having difficulty in OB Hemorrhage response times. I created an escape room for the nurses to go through to help aid in learning our policies and protocols. Through this project, we were able to significantly cut our response times and improve patient safety. I believe when you set a high bar and you provide the instruction and tools for students to reach those bars, the majority will.”
For her work as the maternal and child educator at Los Robles, Ashley was nominated and awarded the Daisy Award for Leadership. She was a previous nominee for the Daisy Award at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, and during her time in the Pediatric Department at Los Robles Medical Center. In 2023, Ashley was named one of the 40 under 40 by the Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce. This award honored the work Ashley did within the Caring and Peer Support (CAPS) team at Los Robles Medical Center. The CAPS team offers emotional First Aid to first responders during times of crisis.
“I was born to two teenage parents who came to faith through my Christian elementary school, and grit/faith/service are the fibers that have made me. These threads are intertwined within my career, at home with my family, and in my extracurricular activities. In my career, it has been vital to me to be able to depend on my faith to help me overcome situations that can quite literally bring me to my knees. My faith has been what ‘fills my cup’ when I feel like I’m drowning in a season of death, abuse, or terminal diagnoses. I believe I have been called to lead a life of service to my community, elevating patient safety, and feel so honored to do that in collaboration with Pepperdine and their new nursing program”.
